BAFTA reveals its 2021 Breakthrough talent for film, games and TV

In collab with Netflix, this programme will ensure the likes of It’s a Sin’s Lydia West and Sex Education’s George Robinson get all the industry support they need to keep telling boundary-breaking stories.

Film and TV lovers, listen up.

BAFTA has named 36 individuals as part of its 2021 Breakthrough cohort, which is all about celebrating those who bring our favourite stories to life both in the spotlight and behind the scenes.

A selection of actors, writers, directors, casting directors, producers, sound mixers and plenty more have been hand-selected for their contribution to bringing this year’s very best entertainment to our screens.

Those with a coveted spot on the list include It’s a Sin star Lydia West, Sex Educations George Robinson, I Hate Suzie director Georgi Banks-Davies, We Are Lady Parts casting director Aisha Bywaters and Shiva Baby production designer Cheyenne Ford. And breathe.

With the support of Netflix, this year’s BAFTA Breakthrough programme will nurture creative talent across the UK and US, with a view to support voices and emerging talent from different cultures.

Since launching in 2013, recipients have received one-on-one industry training, global networking opportunities, access to career coaching sessions and support with their professional skills. Not bad.

And considering previous winners include BAFTA winner Bukky Bakray, I May Destroy Yous Paapa Essiedu, Florence Pugh and Josh O’Connor, this year’s Breakthrough gang are in very good company. We can’t wait to see what they do next!
