Looking for cool things to do in Miami? Check this out

Once you’ve inhaled more art than you can handle at Art Basel Miami Beach, be sure to visit these top spots in the Magic City.

Remember the $120,000 banana?

Remember the chaos and crowds of people all looking at the $120,000 banana?

Well, after taking a brief hiatus last season (pandemic and all that), Art Basel Miami Beach is back, baby. But when you’re done with that there’s a whole lot to see and do beyond the fair: good food, fashiony things, parties and clothing drops included. So dive into this list of proper good places… And if you’re not in Miami right now, bookmark them for a future trip.

ANDREW, 10 NE 1ST AVE

Andrew is the Downtown skateboarding shop co-founded by Adrian Douzmanian, Nick Katz and Pres Rodriguez that’s blowing up beyond South Florida’s skate-minded community. In the spirit of Basel, Andrew is launching not one but two collaborations this week — one that centres around partying, the other round art. Head to their store to find an edition of signed and numbered skate decks featuring visuals by Miami-based artist Reginald O’Neil, plus a collab with Miami’s best dive bar Mac’s Club Deuce that launches this Thursday.

HOTEL GREYSTONE, 1920 COLLINS AVE

Hotel Greystone is the only place to be in Miami, and you heard it here first. In fact, the hotel is Team FACE’s hub for the duration of Basel this season where we’ll be hosting a screening of London-based designer Randa Kherbas new film, a dinner with New York’s Nicola Vassel Gallery and an evening of drinks to celebrate the newest issue of THE FACE covered by none other than Adele.

Located in an art deco building on South Beach’s historic Collins Avenue, the boutique hotel is as cosy as they come. Unlike many of Miami’s giant establishments, Hotel Greystone is an intimate space that’s built around a hyperlocal ethos, frequented by a dynamic crowd who’re into all the good stuff: art, music, and fine dining, the latter of which can be enjoyed at Sérêvène, the hotel’s Japanese-French fusion restaurant. And when you’re done indulging, slide over to Greystone Bar to stay well-watered into the early hours.

SAINT LAURENT RIVE DROITE EXHIBITION, BEACHFRONT AT 17TH STREET

Sun Showers is Saint Laurent Rive Droite’s latest project. Anthony Vaccarello has commissioned Japanese artist Sho Shibuya to work on an exhibition in an ephemeral gallery, to mark the 2021 iteration of Art Basel Miami Beach. Titled 55 Sunrises, Shibuya began creating this body of work during the early days of lockdown when he would photograph the sunrise each morning, before recreating each rich gradient in acrylic on the cover of the New York Times and posting the work on Instagram. His visual diary has since become emblematic of these unprecedented, and constantly changing, times.

Sunrise to sunset, Tuesday 30th November to Sunday 5th December

DALE ZINE, 7395 NW MIAMI PLACE

Dale Zine is Miami’s finest purveyor of good old-fashioned books and magazines. Occupying what was once a fragrance stand in a Downtown Miami mall, Dale Zine is now a bricks-and-mortar business, independent printer and publisher, all with the goal of giving a platform to burgeoning multimedia artists and designers from the area. They’re also hosting a group exhibition. Titled Sun Showers, it celebrates Miami and the bond that each artist has with the city.

1pm-7pm daily at the Dale Zine store
