The NYC rapper has joined reggaeton legend Daddy Yankee on a remix of Eldio Carrion and Jay Balvin’s drill-leaning track, TaTa.

When Bobby Shmurda performed to a rapturous crowd at Miami’s booming Rolling Loud festival last weekend, it felt like a fitting prelude for his re-entry into the hip-hop scene. Fans screamed hysterically as Shmurda debuted a brand new song and teased that more new shit” would be coming their way very soon.

Said new shit, it turns out, will be a reggaeton remix of Eladio Carrión and J Balvins Latin drill tune TATA. The remix, which drops tomorrow, will feature Shmurda and Daddy Yankee to further lean into the genre’s signature sliding 808s and dark mood. Carrión and Balvin have tapped just the right person for the job – after all, Brooklyn drill is a genre that Shmurda is renowned for pioneering, alongside fellow rapper and GS9 label signee Rowdy Rebel with their 2014 song Hot N*gga.

It’ll be Shmurda’s first single since his release from prison in February, where he spent six years on weapons and conspiracy charges. Though Shmurda will remain on parole in 2026, he’s still a free man. Who can blame him for spending the last few months basking in the joy of rejoining society? That’s as good an excuse as any to delay the release – or making – of new music.

In a recent interview with comedians and podcasters Desus and Mero, Shmurda revealed that he had mixed emotions about life post-prison: Some days is work, and some days it’s like, man, I’m home. You know when you can’t believe you’re home?” he said. Evidently, though, the rapper hasn’t been resting on his laurels since being let out.

Beyond tomorrow’s TATA release, Shmurda also confirmed in the interview that he has a collab with Migos coming up. Plus, rumours are swirling around that the rapper will join Justin Bieber and Lil Baby at JAY‑Z’s Made in America Festival in September. Bobby Shmurda is back – and hopefully, for good.
