London rap’s proudly wholesome YouTube star

Volume 4 Issue 001: Life is getting quite exciting for Jimothy Lacoste.

Dancing on tubes, dads in Spain, wearing Burberry socks… just a few of the topics that old Jimothy covers in his idiosyncratic pop-rap.

Breaking onto the scene with the now viral Getting Busy! two years ago, the London trickster has gone on to build a loyal fanbase who go ga-ga for his signature dance moves, motivational lyrics and bonkers music videos.

Smashing Glastonbury, headlining a sold-out Koko London show, clocking up millions of streams; it’s been a good year for the rising star. One that proves that there’s truth to his deadpan catchphrase: Life is getting quite exciting.”

What did you want to be when you were seven years old?

I wanted to be a marine biologist because I was obsessed with lizards. But like, the sea lizard. That’s where the marine comes in. And then, after like four years, I was like: Yeah, that’s not happening.’ ”

If you could be any rapper, past or present, who would you be?

Tommy Wright III.”

Who’s the most famous person you’ve met?

Skepta.”

Have you ever had a crush on a popstar?

Yes. Miley Cyrus.”

What’s the most exciting thing you’ve done so far?

I did an Australian tour opening up for Reggie Snow. That in itself was really exciting, but the funnest thing was jet-skiing. The promoters at the festival organise these things for all the artists. I went super-fast over waves and too far at one point to a bit where you’re not allowed where there was a shark. It was the funnest time of my life.”
