Is Skepta working on an all-female album?

Some Insta sleuthing suggests that the UK’s biggest grime MC could be planning a project that champions female talent.

It’s been precisely three days since Skepta released his latest EP, All In. His first solo project since 2019’s Ignorance is Bliss, the EP’s a short-but-sweet offering, featuring collaborations with J Balvin, Teezee and Kid Cudi.

And now that we’re allowed to actually party again, you know he celebrated its release in style. Taking over London’s The Hippodrome Casino last Friday, the likes of Jorja Smith, Ms Banks, Mowalola and Deto Black all showed up to Skepta’s big launch do in their finest fits.

Did he spend the rest of the weekend nursing a mighty hangover? Not quite. He’s already planning his next project. The multi-award-winning, platinum-selling artist hopped on Instagram Stories on Sunday to proclaim that I have no unreleased music, feels good to clear the inbox.”

Skepta went on to say that he is a producer at heart” and now wants to work with other artists, upcoming and established, young and OG”.

He then took things a step further by announcing that he also definitely want[s] to make an all-female album. So many fire female artists, rappers and singers.”

Who exactly will Skepta be hitting up for a collab, you ask? Well, in a recent interview with Radio 1Xtra’s Tiffany Calver, he said that he’d love to produce an album for Rihanna, but don’t hold your breath – we’re still waiting on that Riri reggae album, remember.

Skepta also asked his Instagram followers to send him their favourite female artists, prompting names like Koffee, Bree Runway, Little Simz and ENNY to pour in. I gotta make a hard 13-track, female-only album FULL of classics,” he concluded. It sounds like the projects’ initial brainstorming stage is already off to a good start.
