Inside Virgil Abloh’s history lesson and round table discussion on the Nike Dunk

World Exclusive: Ahead of the release of the new Nike Dunk Low Off White, Virgil Abloh convenes a roundtable discussion with a group of heavyweight cultural leaders.

This week, designer Virgil Abloh honours Nike’s hoops and skateboarding legacies in their latest collaboration – the Nike Dunk Low Off White. The shoe features over lacing from Nike’s Waffle Racer, while the exposed foam tongue is a nod to the exposed-prototype language Abloh has developed in collaboration with the brand. Inspired by the colourways of the original Dunk releases and revamped via Abloh’s eye for the iconic, the shoe is sure to be a collectors item for generations to come.

To commemorate the release, Abloh convened an instant-message roundtable discussion with a group of cultural leaders – Fraser Cooke, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Carri Munden and Nick Diamond – to talk about the cultural and stylistic significance of the shoe through the years.

And if you’re after more of that, we’ve compiled a timeline of the Dunk from 1985 to the present day.

The Nike x OFF WHITE Dunk Low is available worldwide on 20th December.

Many thanks to Virgil Abloh, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Fraser Cooke, Nick Diamond, Carri Munden, Sami Janjer and Zainab Jama.
