Amelia Dimoldenberg’s daily beauty rituals: nail biting, nuggets and pints of tea

@ameliadimz

Ever wondered how everybody’s favourite serial dater keeps her glow going despite the high-nugget diet? Us too.

We can all recall a few horribly awkward moments in our personal lives; saying the wrong thing, getting dumped in public, forgetting someone’s name or failing to read the room. Thankfully for most of us, that’s not our job. On that note, cue failed romance specialist, YouTube superstar, journalist and everyone’s favourite comedian, Amelia Dimoldenberg.

Fresh from making a guest appearance on Pharell’s podcast OTHERtone and with viral interviews on her world-famous channel Chicken Shop Date, where she’s dated” the likes of Louis Theroux, Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX and rapper and rumoured current flame, Aitch, we managed to pin the 28-year old Londoner and nugget connoisseur down to get the scoop on her daily beauty rituals.

I wake up… an hour before I need to be ready. That’s how long I usually need to get myself prepared for the day.

The first thing I do is… make myself a cup of tea. My mum bought me a giant mug for Christmas that is pretty much a pint glass. I love tea so much, it makes me feel alive. Then I will make breakfast. Every morning I eat the same thing: porridge with honey and strawberries and blueberries on top. I will also have a bagel or a crumpet with strawberry jam on top. I think breakfast is one of those meals where it’s acceptable to have the same thing every single day. Saying that, I pretty much eat chicken for dinner every night.

My skincare regimen in the morning looks like this… first, I wash my face with warm water and soap. Then I put on Olay Vitamin C + AHA24 Day Gel Serum paired with Olay Vitamin C + AHA24 Gel Day Cream. It gives me that bright and even skin tone I’m always looking for. The product smells amazing, too – it’s got a citrus smell that really wakes me up in the morning. Also, you should always follow with a good SPF. Something like the Olay Collagen Peptide24 +SPF30 is a good option for extra hydration and SPF protection in one.

My favourite morning products are… as mentioned above!

My worst beauty habits are… biting my nails and peeling off my shellac! I know it’s awful. This reminds me, I need to go and get a manicure ASAP.

My favourite feature is my… personality – I have a great one. Very funny and charming. Also, people say I have good skin… does that count?

My first beauty-related memory is… painting my sister’s eyelids with nail varnish and getting told off by my mum.

Where are you headed today?
Today I am going to interview a footballer for my series, Fake News. Not a bad day, to be fair!

What tasks have you got to get done?
A group of university students are hosting a Chicken Shop Date-themed club night this week which I found out about through Instagram. They are going to be playing all the hits from my previous guests, which I thought was such a cute idea, so I’m sending them some of my merch as a gift. I have to make sure I get the order in today.

Do you work out?
Yes, I work out twice a week – mainly strength training and a bit of cardio as I just wanted to tone up. I also love football and I try to play at least twice a month with my friend who is a coach. I only started exercising properly during the pandemic and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It made me feel so much better in my mind and body.

Are you taking any supplements?
I don’t, but maybe I should to counteract all the chicken nuggets.

What’s for lunch and why?
For lunch, I will usually have some chicken goujons or a jacket potato with cheese and beans.

What’s your evening routine?
Usually, I will go out to dinner with a friend or recently I have been trying to go and see as much live music as possible as it’s something I missed so much during lockdown. There is nothing better than going to an amazing gig. It’s also a great opportunity to scout some potential chicken shop dates.

In terms of a makeup routine, I usually take my makeup off and my contact lenses as soon as I come home from work, my eyes get so dry! Then I put on one of my super comfy Chicken Shop Date hoodies and relax.

How do you relax?
Hanging out with my sister. We are very close and I can always rely on her to take the pressure off. I also love watching Disney movies or romcoms to relax – those are my favourites!

Do you listen to anything in the evening?
I mean, I’m always listening to music if I’m not watching TV but in the evening I usually listen to my own edits back, watching Chicken Shop Date and cooking show episodes that are due to be released and fine-tuning them with my editor.

Do you burn any candles and run a bath?
I will always light a candle if I’m watching TV in the living room. I had a period where I was taking baths but I’m much more of a shower person, especially as my bath at home takes about two hours to run. I now reserve baths for when I get to stay in hotels – special occasions.

What products do you use at night?
Currently, I don’t really use any products at night other than make-up wipes.

What skincare products do you swear by?
Olay Vitamin C – it’s just such a brilliant product. So simple yet effective. The texture of the cream is perfect in my opinion, leaving my skin feeling moisturised and glowing.

What’s the best beauty hack you’ve ever learned and why?
Take off all your make up before you go to sleep. Also, another beauty hack is to see beauty as more than just your appearance. Beauty is so many things! It’s intelligence, your sense of humour, how you treat other people…

What’s the last product you apply before you sleep?
I do enjoy using a really rich moisturiser before bed. Also this isn’t a product, well it sort of is, but I drink a glass of water before I go to bed. I’m always so thirsty before I sleep and I’m prone to headaches. I mean, this usually doesn’t work out well for me as I have to get up in the night to pee – a lot.

Who’s got your favourite face and why?
I don’t think I have a favourite face, there are too many to choose from. Maybe mine? I’ve got an awkward facial expression for every possible scenario.

Bedtime is at… midnight usually. I need to get eight hours’ sleep without fail, otherwise I feel like a shell of a person.

How do you sleep?
I can fall asleep pretty quickly which I’m very grateful for, but if I’m filming the next morning I will wake up a lot during the night. I still get super nervous to interview certain people – the women make me more nervous than the men. I can handle the men.

I’ve been dreaming of… Jack Harlow. I mean, haven’t we all?
