Maddie Jepson on magic celery juice and TikTok-approved falsies

Daily Beauty Rituals: One of the platform’s funniest posters also has ridiculously good skin. Here’s what her routine looks like – budget finds, bougie-buys and all.

Maddie Jepson has had a busy day flogging most of her possessions on Facebook Marketplace. If there’s anything you want, let me know,” says the TikToker, 23, in her characteristically animated affect. She’s Zooming in from her flat in South West London, which she’s currently in the chaotic process of moving out of.

She’s used to this energy, though. Chaos reigns supreme in Jepson’s videos. They’re overflowing with hyperactive, distinctly hun energy and great craic, whether she’s impersonating a workaholic or an annoying club bouncer, raking in 1.2 million followers and counting.

Her rise as one of the UK’s most popular TikTok comics hasn’t been entirely smooth-sailing, either. A theatre kid at heart, Bristol-born, Yorkshire-raised Jepson graduated from the Guildford School of Acting in 2020. It was so fun, you know, getting sent home and graduating into a pandemic,” she says, laughing. After the second lockdown, I was in an absolute pit of depression. That’s when I started TikTok, because I needed to do something. I was itching with boredom.”

Then, out of nowhere, one of Jepson’s videos went viral. Sadly, the original sound has been removed, but you get the gist from her violently gyrating arm and now-silent lip-synching that it was probably a belter. From there, I started posting very consistently,” she continues. I couldn’t believe that almost 13 million people had the same sense of humour as me.”

Almost three years down the line of social media stardom, Jepson’s feeling like a boss b”, and rightfully so. I’m loving my independence and feeling like I’m in charge of my own destiny. Hopefully I’m showing other young girls to put themselves out there – women in comedy, we’re often shunned a bit. We don’t have to be quiet and cute to be funny.”

So Jepson’s not quiet nor cute, but she’s definitely got skin to die for. We’ve been wondering how she keeps it so smooth for a minute. Below, she reveals all…

The first thing I drink when I wake up is…

Celery juice. I’m really prone to UTIs and I get awful bladder pain. I did loads of research into it and celery juice is amazing. It’s full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, which strip all the bacteria that sits in the lining of the bladder. So on an empty stomach, the first thing I’ll drink is my celery juice.

My morning skincare regimen looks like…

I keep it pretty simple. I cleanse in the shower with the Kate Somerville Goat Milk cleanser. It never dries my skin out. I’ll put some sort of niacinamide toner on, hyaluronic acid, then my Weleda Skin Food moisturiser and SPF. If I’m having an acid day, I’ll put my Paula’s Choice on instead. I put that straight on my hands as well, not even on the cotton pad. Lessen the waste, you know.

My go-to beauty hack for when I’ve pulled an all-nighter is…

Probably a cold shower or something. I don’t tend to pull all-nighters – I can’t hack it. At two o’clock, I start having anxiety. It’s too late for me. After the BRITs I didn’t get home until five and I started having heart palpitations. My celery juice is also unreal for a hangover. Always force yourself to do your skincare as well.

The product I’ll reach for when I’ve got a pimple is…

Paula’s Choice. You can just put it on your little pimples. It’s so good – gets rid of redness, too.

My favourite brand of sunscreen is…

I think it’s a 50+ Bondi Sands one, which leaves no cast or residue. It’s the best one I’ve used.

My best kept beauty secret is…

Spray a tan mist on your face after you’ve done your evening skincare. At the minute I’m using Molly Mae’s, which you can put wherever. It sprays on clear and you wake up in the morning with a glow.

My favourite feature is my…

One thing I love about myself is my eyebrows, but I can’t even really claim them because they’re microbladed. I also like my eyelashes – they’re quite long.

My first beauty-related memory is…

I’ve always been interested in makeup. My mum’s never really worn a lot of it, so I don’t know where it came from. I have loads of older cousins – when I was 6, they were teenagers. I have memories of them putting makeup on me, straightening my hair, giving me little makeovers every time we went round.

The bougiest beauty product I own is…

I don’t own a lot of bougie things. For me, bougie is Paula’s Choice – £34! Same with the Kate Somerville cleanser. But I was gifted this Luna spray – if you’re at a festival, you can spray it on tissue and use it to clean yourself. It’s feminine-friendly so you can use it on your bits and bobs. It’s so extra.

My favourite budget find is…

Everything from the Inkey List. I also love a Revolution eyeshadow palette.

My signature scent is…

I wear Maison Francis Kurkdjian, it’s called Gentle Fluidity. I get so many compliments on it. I will never change. It’s spenny – actually, that’s got to be the bougiest product I own. It’s the best smell in the world.

TikTok made me buy it…

Dose of Lashes. They do the best eyelashes ever.

My evening skincare routine looks like…

Very similar to the morning one, minus SPF. Keep it as simple as you can, or you might damage your skin’s barrier.

The secret to a good night’s sleep is…

Lavender oil or some sort of lavender pillow spray. My mum is a lavender freak – if you go into her room, you get hit with a wall of it. It used to give me an absolute migraine but as I’ve grown up, it’s become a comfort for me.
