I often get asked what the “theme” of an upcoming new issue is. It’s something I find quite hard to answer. On some level, I guess I don’t really like to be pinned down (it’s good to leave a little room for manoeuvre when making a magazine).
On another, THE FACE has simply always been the best of everything: the best clothes, the best music, the best opinions, the best people. This autumn issue is no different.
Inside, you’ll find the best musicians (see: the Lana Del Rey-bothering Ethel Cain and the take-home-to-your-mum-if-he’d‑only-put-out-that-cigarette good looks of Fakemink), the best models (California’s Alex Consani and Oldham’s Charlie Jones), the best fashion (New York’s greatest brand Telfar, as modelled by the legendary Erykah Badu).
You’ll find, too, the best new club night in London, Post Party, which I was lucky enough to attend with photographer Hedi Slimane back in July (you may have also come across some of his design work). I first met Hedi 15 years ago, when he photographed me for his Rock Diary (I had a 1965 Galanti Grand Prix, a 28” waist and a dream). So, it was a joy to be on the other side of the camera with him, shooting a new wave of artists, musicians, mad dogs and cool cats.
How amazing that half a decade into editing this thing, an entirely new scene can come along and knock me off my feet.
THE FACE really is the best of everything.
