A couple of months ago in THE FACE office, a few of us on the editorial desk were huddled around a laptop watching PinkPantheress’s Jimmy Fallon performance on YouTube. Admiring the nostalgic styling and the Proper Pop Choreography, we also set out to find out more about PinkPantheress’s strikingly dapper DJ, who was dancing behind the decks like no one was watching.
Ever since Pink’s crew 2025 Glastonbury performance – which also involved an intro from Louis Theroux, a tartan-clad nine piece band, a trilby-wearing beatboxer as well as tap-dancing moment Joe himself – the fans have been obsessed. Clips of Joe and Pink dancing in sync are now racking up millions of TikTok views. “We just let him rock, because he’s fabulous,” Pink told BBC Radio 1 recently. “He’s kind of a baddie… He is very cute. Everyone loves him, everyone’s thirsting over him in his comments now!
What do you love about dancing?
I love music and I love moving my body to music! I think dancing is hardwired into our DNA.
And what inspired you to learn tap dancing?
It felt like the perfect intersection between music and dance. Tap dancing is like visual percussion, where your body is a drum.
Greatest stage outfit?
In Gothenburg, I wore a sleeveless white polo shirt, skinny red leather suspenders and black tight corduroy pants that I accidentally ripped. Luckily I was behind the booth so you couldn’t see my leopard print underwear through the blown out crotch.
Top 3 highlights your time DJing with PinkPantheress so far?
The Brixton Academy shows, when everybody started jumping and it looked like a sea of people.
Tap dancing to the Ice Spice Boy’s a Liar verse at Glastonbury.
Scratching on vinyl for NPR’s Tiny Desk.
(Other than yourself), who’s the coolest DJ in the world?
Juliana Huxtable.
Which clubs feel like home to you?
Final in Taipei. There’s nowhere like it. The bumper cars at Coney Island – great acoustics. Or the abandoned railroad in between Long Island City and Brooklyn.
Which Fancy Some More? remix have you rinsed the most?
Nia Archives’ Illegal remix is so fire I might do something illegal.
All time favourite PP song?
Stateside.
Go-to UK service station meal?
A meal deal. To be precise: a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich, salt and vinegar crisps and an Irn-Bru.
Where do you get your haircut?
Matia Emsellem in New York. But in my darkest moments, I do it myself.
