adidas Spezial and Liam Gallagher go green

The long-time friends come armed with a brand-new colourway of last year’s LG2 SPZL.

Liam Gallagher has re-entered the ring for a very Spezial round-two with adidas, a year after the first LG2 SPZL dropped – a slick all-whiter, launched last July alongside a fund-raising concert at Blackburn’s King George’s Hall.

Now, r kid’s back, with more soul in his sole. Gallagher debuted the new colourway of the LG2 SPZL last month, ahead of taking over North London’s Koko. At the iconic Camden venue, the rock’n’roll star strutted onstage in inimitable style, tambourine in hand, and treated the crowd to an Oasis-heavy set. In a summer of great Britpop Revival gigs, this was a belter, from the top of his shaggy head to the bottom of his adidas-clad feet.

The new edition takes the clean, all-white palette of last year’s release and reboots it with bottle green on the heel and the three stripes. For his third adidas collaboration Gallagher – a longtime friend of the brand and, in particular, of Spezial’s founder and curator Gary Aspden – looked to adidas’ bulging archive, saluting early 70s designs of the adidas Country. It originally came in a crisp white and green, and was introduced as a running shoe, with comfort and a lightweight construction for athletes.

Now, we wouldn’t recommend running a half marathon in the LG2 SPZL. But with Gallagher riding high with his fifth solo Number One album (for Knebworth 22), and with this new shoe boasting a portrait on the tongue of the man himself, this new colourway is a supersonic nod to keeping it cool.

Cop a pair of LG2 SPZL’s latest colourway on 8th September, available via Confirmed and all adidas Spezial stockists
