I met these girls through a web of work and life. Each at different phases of a long-term documentary project I am directing that was born out of a casting trip to Columbus, Ohio, back in 2016.
As a casting director it is my job to find beauty in the tiny corners of the world. I remember the first time I saw every girl in this story — Kourtnee, you and Kaylee pulled up to the parking lot. I walked up to say hello and you rolled the window down. Your beauty took my breath away.
Shawna Nicole, I met you at the old corner store on 5th and Reeb with Marion (R.I.P.) and Nautica. I never saw you after that day but I always remembered your face. Shawna Kaye, me and Gage came over when he first got out. I was being shy but it was love at first sight. My rider, my main bitch. And Paige, Gage’s little cousin, the baby sister I never had but always needed. Since the day I met you I’ve never taken my eyes off of you. How could I?
I vowed to myself that one day I’d cast you all in “something”. So here we are. Thank you girls for letting us dress you up and bask in your beauty.
