Going out guide: South London
Featuring the area's best club night, DJs, pubs and morning after breakfast spot, all recommended by a local.
Ploy is a South London based DJ, producer and Rinse FM resident.
Best club night
Pause. It’s a minimal house Sunday day party at Ormside Projects run by DJ Python and Kit Seymour. The vibe is chill but sexy with a dose of euphoria. The outfits are Sunday best. Everyone’s dressed to impress. Loafers are a must. I also heard the founders first met at a Bucharest squat party in 2004.
Local DJs to look out for on flyers
Kit Seymour and Front Left Life.
A decent local band
Legendary artists you need to have listened to
Giggs. Katy B. And you need to know Da’VinChe’s Doin It Now ft. Essentials.
Best boozer
Blythe Hill Tavern, between Catford and Forest Hill. Fantastic pints.
Beloved takeaway
Ferfect Fried Chicken. Yeah, like perfect, but with an F.
Cafe for the morning after
BB & Friends, Forest Hill. “Big breakfast for bodybuilders only”. It is too much food if anything.
Hyperlocal fashion trend
The Trilogy Tapes T‑shirts.
LBGTQ+ institution
Royal Vauxhall Tavern.
Local hero
Kezurgh – if you know, you know. He should do the guide to South next time.
Coolest local radio station
Legally and contractually, I’m obliged to say Rinse FM even though it’s not in South. Also Balamii in Peckham!
A naff club to avoid at all costs
South has no bad clubs. All of those are in Hackney.
What not to say to a local
“I’ve heard this area is really up and coming.”
