There’s loads of music out there, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up.
Rather than letting the algorithm dictate your music taste, you can listen to Rated by THE FACE – a playlist that’s lovingly curated and updated by our (human) editorial team every week.
JT – Ran Out
JT makes a bid for the next hot girl anthem with Ran Out. Fresh from shutting down DSquared2’s Milan Fashion Week runway alongside Doechii, the Miami rapper has finally unleashed her long-teased single. After weeks of glimpses of Insta – flashes of JT in a car park, dancing in a bikini as dollar bills rain down – the full track is here in all its glory, featuring an insanely catchy hook and braggadocious lyrics: “I’m still gettin’ money/I ain’t running out/Had to stay down/Bitches ran out.” Give it a week – by Friday night, it’ll be soundtracking every Uber to the club. YT & Plaqueboymax – 1000 Spin Again
American streamer Plaqueboymax has made a name for himself by cooking up tracks with rappers live on Twitch, and he recently set up camp in London’s Virus studios to collaborate Skepta, Nemzzz, Lancey Foux, YT, Len and Fimiguerrero. YT’s track was the highlight of the sessions, and not because he had a viral moment with his bars about Bonnie Blue. The beat is like an aural firework display, with colourful synths exploding from pounding distorted kick drums. Now that Max has officially dropped it on the 5$tar Sessions: London EP, I bet there’ll be loads of warm-up DJs dropping this one at moshpit-heavy rap shows. DR
Nettspend – Impact ft. Xaviersobased
If you’ve been tapped into American rap’s new underground scene for a while, you might remember when Nettspend, Xaviersobased and Yhapojj’s December 2023 NYC show was so oversold that fans caused a mini-riot, and the rappers ended up performing on top of a cargo van in a nearby skate park. Since then, Nettspend has caught the attention of the fashion world – he’s modelled for Heaven, posed for a pic with Anna Wintour and walked for Miu Miu in Paris – while Xav has kept pushing his sound forward in strange new directions. On Impact, the pair reunite over a hyperactive beat to stutter bars about money, parties, Hollywood dreams and dark thoughts. This sound might not be for everyone, but judging by Nettsspend and Xav’s glorious recent Rolling Loud sets, it’s definitely resonating with the youth. DR
Debby Friday – 1/17
Last time we heard a single from Debby Friday, the Toronto artist was commanding girls to the dance floor on a minimal club track co-produced by Detroit rascals HiTech. She’s in a totally different headspace on the hyperpop ballad 1/17, singing about love and sensuality over bubbling synths which eventually give way to a euphoric trance finale. DR
Bodur – Off Balance
With her debut album MAQAM, London-born, Turkish-Sri Lankan musician Bodur makes a powerful political statement about the ramifications of racism and Islamophobia for young people. On Off Balance, which beautifully blends pop and electronica, Bodur mediates on the boundaries of a relationship: “I break myself in half/Always the better side to you/I squeeze into your shapes/Like clay/I try to blend your hue/I turn my pink into your blue/I erase borders Between me and you”.
