There’s loads of music out there, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up.
Rather than letting the algorithm dictate your music taste, you can listen to Rated by THE FACE – a playlist that’s lovingly curated and updated by our (human) editorial team every week.
Rosalía – Berghain
Rosalía’s first single off her hotly-anticipated album, Lux is nothing short of epic. Accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra, the Spanish artist takes on opera, merging German, Spanish and English in a devotional love song that borders on dangerous obsession. Singing in German, a choir emphasises in the chorus: “His fear is my fear/His anger is my anger/His love is my love/His blood is my blood,” before Rosalía joins them in a towering falsetto. Björk, who last collaborated with Rosalía on the 2023 one-off single Oral, belts out a chorus and Yves Tumor barks “I’ll fuck you till you love me” through a wall of distortion. This truly theatrical comeback is blowing up the internet, in part thanks to the strange and absorbing music video that feels like the trailer to a Lanthimos film. It’s safe to say I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of Lux. TL
Dave – My 27th Birthday
Running at just under eight minutes, My 27th Birthday – a highlight from Dave’s new album The Boy Who Played Harp – contains more quotable bars than some rappers manage across an entire project. Over the last few days on socials, I’ve seen Dave fans unpack the Dubai slavery line, applaud the honesty about Central Cee’s success and raise an eyebrow at the one about girls with pictures of themselves on their lockscreen. Some listeners are loving the lyrical weight of this album, others are complaining about the absence of commercially-minded hits. But to have such a substantial work of art dominate the discourse and rise up the UK charts can only be a good thing. DR
Lily Allen – Pussy Palace
In case you haven’t heard, Lily Allen has a new album out. West End Girl details the breakdown of her marriage with David Harbour in brutal, gruesome detail; song by song, she fleshes out a narrative replete with cheating, hidden sex toys and plenty of deceit. Pussy Palace is the album’s undeniable standout, an earworm that’ll lodge itself in your brain for days. Amidst all the drama, Lily hasn’t lost her sense of humour: “I didn’t know it was your pussy palace/I always thought it was a dojo/So am I looking at a sex addict?/Talk about a low blow,” she sings, with the stinging pain of the lyrics soothed by the blissfully spaced-out production. Good thing the Stranger Things press tour is about to kick off. JW
BNYX – Telepathy Love ft. Clara La San
Known for cooking up bombastic, melodically-rich beats for rappers including Yeat, Drake, Travis Scott and Lil Uzi Vert, BNYX is diversifying his portfolio with new EP Loading… On Telepathy, UK singer Clara La Sa’s reverb-soaked vocals echo far and wide while she glides over stargazing synths, as if she’s soundtracking the chemistry between two lovestruck space travellers. DR
Slew – Next Move
Balancing careers in modelling and rap can be exhausting, especially if you party as hard as Slew. On Next Move – taken from Slew’s hard-hitting mixtape Who Else – the sharp-tongued Londoner cuts through Munich, referencing Burberry, Fenty, Louis Vuitton and Prada while “moving stupid” under the influence of ecstasy. Guess he can sleep when he gets home. DR
