NewJeans – OMG

The titular track from NewJeans single album OMG leans on the band’s flair for delivering nostalgic R&B bops, repackaged with a glossy K‑pop sheen. A bouncy beat serves as the backdrop for their teenage pining, as they take turns to address a crush, before backing vocals chime in with Who is he?” Flirtatious and fun, it’s the perfect dose of bubblegum to put a skip in your step this January. Popcaan – We Caa Done ft. Drake

All the way back in 2016, a version of Drake’s track Controlla featuring Popcaan leaked online. Although it became a fan fave, the Jamaican star was inexplicably absent when the official version of Controlla appeared on Drizzy’s album Views. But no one ever doubted the friendship between these two, which is rekindled on We Caa Done, released courtesy of Drake’s label OVO. DR

Clavish – Traumatised

Despite the intensity of his lyrics, North London rapper Clavish has entered the mainstream, scoring a Top 10 hit with his single Rocket Science featuring D‑Block Europe. Traumatised, which also appears on Clavish’s upcoming mixtape Rap Game Awful, is a prime example of his dark wordplay and stone-faced delivery. DR

Finn Foxell – Red & Blue

Finn Foxell recently made the shift from rap to punk-influenced music, as exemplified by previous anthems Leaders and What’s Your Poison? On Red & Blue, the 23-year-old returns to hip-hop, ruminating about a past relationship he can’t quite let go of and late night thrill-seeking in London against a moody beat. It’s a vulnerable, sexually-charged slow jam that showcases the confidence of Foxell’s artistry. JW
