The person Marc Jacobs wants to couple up with is… Charlotte Rampling
The two star as the “iconic Givenchy couple” for the brand’s SS20 campaign.

Last night Givenchy teased its Instagram followers with three smouldering black and white videos of infamous American designer Marc Jacobs and legendary British actress Charlotte Rampling.
In the clips, the pair call themselves by the other’s name, Rampling slaps Jacobs (don’t worry, Jacobs assured on his Insta that he was totally up for it) and the two engage in an agitated face off of who’s who. With each captioned: “THIS SEASON, CHARLOTTE RAMPLING AND MARC JACOBS FORM THE ICONIC GIVENCHY COUPLE. CAMPAIGN REVEAL TOMORROW. #GIVENCHYSS20”.
True to their word, Givenchy dropped the full campaign earlier today and, as expected, it’s totally fabulous.
Thanks to the vision of the brand’s artistic director, Clare Waight Keller, the black and white campaign images see the two wearing this season’s looks: a bold embellished lace dress and a glitzy floral blazer. Shot by British photographer Craig McDean, the visuals give us old school ’90s New York and Paris vibes. Proper classy stuff.
In the accompanying video, the British idol schools the American designer in acting. Instructing Jacobs to display a range of emotions: from astonishment to fear, ecstasy to pain, she finally challenges the style leader to give his “best Charlotte Rampling”, to which she firmly critiques: “Oh you’ll never be”.
See the short film below. Be sure to also keep a look out for this season’s footwear playing a surreal cameo as a telephone.
