We’re marking a new moon this month. No, not that big lump of lunar cheese in the sky; forget that luminous blob. We’re talking about the Valentino Garavani VLogo Moon, the Italian fashion house’s latest handbag, available in cappucino, black, ivory and yellow. It was first introduced on the runway at Valentino’s SS24 show in Paris, a collection defined by kirigami style cut-out dresses, tailored denim and footloose and fancy-free, flowing silhouettes.
First, an admission: we have a slight friendly vendetta against the VLogo Moon. It’s made us dip into our own purses and count the pennies we swore to ourselves we would save for Christmas presents; ones for other people that is, not our selfish, elfish selves.
But who can blame us? Artfully cut in a curved, crescent shape that pays homage to our home planet’s natural satellite, it’s also crafted from stampa alce leather, the house’s signature calfskin. The statement chain, split by an oversized VLogo emblem, also means that it moonlights as an evening bracelet, leading Valentino to coin the cronut-adjacent term “baglet”, which is very sweet indeed.
It’s not just the VLogo Moon that’s getting people talking. Propelled by the sexy elegance of Pierpaolo Piccioli, Valentino is having a moment right now. So much so, that THE FACE’s most recent cover star Olivia Rodrigo wore a black and ivory crepe couture dress and a silver floral embellished frock from the house’s latest collection for the occasion, exuding pure popstar quality and making our purses tremble even more.
Luckily for us, THE FACE got its hands on a black edition of the bag and went for walkies. We took it from the office to our local offie to – shameless plug – grab a copy of the new issue the day it dropped. It was the VLogo Moon’s gravitational forces that took us there, OK? Watch below.
