Comedian Jordan Firstman makes a fun funeral playlist
The comedian and writer for Netflix’s Big Mouth has put together a tracklist with a big memorial service vibe.

Jordan Firstman – despite having credits as a TV writer on Big Mouth and Search Party – is best-known as a situational impressionist. His “Impressions” videos on Instagram are horrendously accurate and absurdly funny. For example, you catch someone breaking into your home and go to confront them, but quickly realise they are hot.
These situations are as farcical as they are relatable. So if someone died, say, what songs would the recently deceased like to hear played at their funeral? Firstman gives it a morbidly funny stab.

Sister Sledge – We Are Family
“I think this song is the perfect opening funeral – especially if someone in your family died. Everyone is coming together, some cousins you haven’t seen in years. It will get everyone in the family spirit. It also has a good beat so if it’s open casket, it will keep people moving as they pay their respects.”
Shaggy – Angel
“This song has a nostalgic feel and is about angels. Great funeral song.”
Blink-182 – I Miss You
“This song is actually good but I think people don’t realise that. When this song comes on at the funeral people will listen with new ears and finally give it justice. Death makes us reconsider things…”
A Little Night Music, Stephen Sondheim – Every Day a Little Death
“Most people don’t love listening to showtunes at a funeral, and this song is pretty morbid also, but I love it. It’s about how misogyny slowly kills women in very small, soul crushing ways. I think it deserves to be analysed. Maybe it’s not the right time though. Maybe more of a wedding song.”
Lana Del Rey – Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais remix)
“I think it’s important we play the remix at the funeral. The OG song is too sad. People are already gunna be sad. No need to rub it in, Lana…”
Eric Clapton – Cocaine
“If the subject of the funeral died from cocaine use… this song would be perfect. Otherwise, I don’t think it would make much sense.”
Khia – My Neck, My Back (Lick It)
“Death often makes people want to have sex. Something about birth and death being aligned. This song will make people horny and want to create new life.”
Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass
“I’m just assuming it was the dead person’s favourite song…”
Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony No. 9 in D minor
“Dramaaaaaaaaa.”
Sister Sledge – We Are Family
“If we believe death and life are interchangeable and that it’s all a cycle, it’s important to start and end the funeral on the same song. People will also need to dance a little more before they go home.”
