100% S Dog: Bad Boy Chiller Crew’s secret weapon
Alongside making bassline bangers with the cheeky trio, the West Yorkshire MC is making a name for himself as a solo artist.
By this point, pretty much everyone’s heard of Bad Boy Chiller Crew. In around a year, the Bradford trio have gone from local legends to viral fame thanks to their daft social media skits and jägerbomb-powered bassline bangers. S Dog, who’s on five of the 11 tracks on BBCC’s recent mixtape, was an unfamiliar name for most of the Crew’s new fans. But from West Yorkshire to West Midlands, he’s known as one the fastest rising rappers on the scene.
While he’s proud of his ability to MC over a bassline track, and up for getting wrecked with GK, Kane and Clive, S Dog’s own stuff is totally different to Bad Boy Chiller Crew. He does slick, stone-faced trap on tracks like 3s N 4s and his signature hit West Yorks Charva. Lyrically, he goes into more serious territory. The 2 Blessed video depicts S Dog and his mates being victim to racial profiling from the police, while the track Family and his Storyteller freestyle include emotionally raw bars about jail sentences and fatherhood.
“The reason I collaborated with Bad Boy Chiller Crew was to show that I’m versatile,” he explains. “That showed some [more of my] personality – like I’m a cheeky kid from a council estate as well. And I can fit into any genre.”
Get to know S Dog below, where he gets The Face’s 100% treatment.
10% Where were you born, where were you raised and where are you now based?
I were born in Bradford, I were raised mostly in Bradford but partly in Castleford at my mum’s. And now I’m back and forth between Bradford and Castleford.
20% What’s a piece of advice that changed your life?
My kid’s mum told me to stop kicking stones on the floor and push for what I wanted.
30% When did you find your confidence as an artist?
Prison. During my last sentence in prison, I wrote some ghost bars for my mate who did music and he didn’t want to perform them. At social time, a few other kids off the wing were saying ‘you wrote the bars, just try it’. I did it and everyone on the wing liked it. And it just went from there.
40% What’s the best pet you’ve ever had?
My dog, Otis. He’s an idiot, but he’s funny.
50% What’s a bad habit you wish you could kick?
I talk to Otis in stupid voices in front of people. I talk to him like he’s a baby.
60% What’s the most pointless fact you can share?
I can smoke three bongs in a row without blowing it out!
70% Name something you love, something you like, and something you hate.
Love my daughter. Like my life. Hate liars.
80% No.1 holiday destination?
90% How did you celebrate your last birthday?
I did a music event with other MCs at The Village in Bradford. It’s like a bassline nightclub, and Bad Boy Chiller Crew performed. To be fair, we were all so drunk that only me and the Bad Boy Chiller Crew performed. Everyone else were too battered.
100% You rule the world for the day. What went down?
I had mishaps in my life. I was a bit of a criminal kid, and it caused me to lose contact with my first born. So if I ruled the world, I’d have custody of my first child. And everyone in the world would have to transfer me 50% of the money in their bank account!
