Isabel Marant SS22: a fantastical adventure of epic proportions

This season, the cult French designer brings us an exuberant, utilitarian collection for the intrepid man on the move. Staycations will never be the same again.

Isabel Marant paid no mind to the uncertainty of a summer holiday this year, by optimistically embracing the spirit of a getaway for their SS22 collection. Pulling inspiration from classic 1980s and 90s sportswear, the French designer of the namesake brand fused Californian casuals with Parisian sophistication, presenting us with the smoothest Man On The Move.

There were staycation getups for the ages: fuschia shirts layered with Marant-monogrammed knitted polos worn with cream, knitted trousers and accessorised with a sleeping mat, reusable water bottle, and embroidered cap. Acid wash jeans with diagonal stitching were paired with cyan shirting, logoed long sleeve tops, lightweight, fleece-lined coats, and of course, portable ice packs and sun hats with neck straps. British heatwaves are known to pack a punch – when they arrive, that is.

These playful and utilitarian garments form a pressing invitation to discover the world around us. Each outfit is completed with comfy, sporty trainers, while Marant even managed to introduce a socks-and-sliders combination that feels stylish – and most of all, appropriate, for spending time in the great outdoors.

Layering also took centre stage. Shirts over tees with knitted jumpers shrugged over shoulders, a glistening, silver waterproof jacket tied around the waist, and bright white shorts over fitted royal blue trousers speak to the urgency of wanting to do everything at once, to catch up on lost time and live out the fantasy inherent to travelling and exploring new environments.

But it was the earthy, lively colour palette that pulled the collection together. Saffron mohair knits were worn with amber canvas trousers and a matching trench coat, and the designer’s signature plaid flannel shirt was paired with loose-fitting patchwork jeans. Chunky knitwear, oversized bum bags, Isabel Marant-branded umbrellas and kinetic pattern swim shorts were juxtaposed against a paisley gilet, ivory boiler suit and kinetic patterned swim shorts.

So whether you’re camping, road-tripping or Airbnb-ing this summer, Isabel Marant’s got you covered.
