If you’ve not got any plans for New Year’s, you’ve come to the right place. As we collectively wave goodbye to the shit show that was 2021, co-founder of cult London club night Deviation and BBC Radio 1 DJ Benji B has got big plans for us to see the year out in style.
On 31st December, he’ll be hosting an all-night knees up at The Standard’s Decimo bar, overlooking London. This time around, having previously collaborated with the likes of Kanye West and Louis Vuitton, Benji B has invited legendary soul band Loose Ends to perform live alongside his NYE set.
“Special occasions require special guests, and Loose Ends are UK soul royalty,” he says. “I’d always wished I was old enough to have grown up with that generation of soul music icons, but their music is so timeless. It speaks to the generations before and after me, all the way through to the present day – iconic, pioneering UK music.” Expect plenty of bangers like Gonna Make You Mine and Hangin’ On A String.
This party feels particularly exciting for Benji B, who hasn’t had a chance to play all night – one of his favourite things to do – since before the pandemic. “It’s been a tough year and I need to let it all out through music and celebrate with friends,” he continues. Too right.
So what does Benji B reckon makes the perfect New Year’s Eve?
“Simple ingredients,” he says. “Good friends, good music, a beautiful environment and very well made drinks. I think we’re covered.”
