Rated by The Face: a weekly playlist
Listen to ferocious lyrics from Megan Thee Stallion’s alter ego Suga, the latest from Afropop artist Darkoo and a climate crisis anthem from Kelly Lee Owens.
There’s a daunting amount of music out there and we know it’s hard to keep up. But rather than submitting yourself to an algorithm for new music recommendations, try this lovingly curated playlist that The Face will be updating every week.
Check it out below and read about last week’s additions here.
Megan Thee Stallion – Savage
There’s been some messy shit going on with Megan and her record label, hence why Suga – initially her debut album, now reframed as an EP – was suddenly self-released last Friday. Judging by the ferocious lyrics of Savage, that nervous bloke at her label doesn’t stand a chance.
Darkoo – Juicy (Dark Skin Like Eva) ft. Hardy Caprio
London-via-Lagos Afropop artist Darkoo is back with the follow up to her hit Gangsta, and she’s only got one thing on her mind.
Lil Uzi Vert – Chrome Heart Tags
Finally it happened: Uzi dropped Eternal Atake. Rap Twitter was quick to declare the album a masterpiece and it’s on course to top the US charts. This tune was produced by Chicago drill originator Chief Keef, who’s spent years crafting weird music from the margins.
AMA – Hour We On
Ama’s new EP Pixelheart “looks at love from a Gen Z perspective”. Once you’ve heard this song, you’ll want to hear the whole thing.
Kelly Lee Owens – Melt!
A techno banger to soundtrack the climate crisis.
