Shygirl – Heaven ft. Tinashe

Shygirl has just announced Nymph_o – a deluxe edition of her album Nymph that’s boosted with remixes and collabs. Our first taste of what’s in store comes via a remix of Heaven, bolstered by a new verse and vocals from Tinashe. Already a dreamy soundscape of whimsical video game synths and breathy vocals, Tinashe’s runs and harmonies add another layer of sensuality to the track, turning sweet pining into something a little more seductive. Eliza Rose – Better Love

Eliza Rose was a stalwart of London nightlife years before she topped the charts with B.O.T.A., so it’s no surprise she’s got good taste in pubs. The video for Better Love was filmed in The Bow Bells – a proper boozer which is well worth a visit if you’re ever in E3. The pressure to follow-up B.O.T.A. must have been massive, but with the Mura Masa-produced Better Love, she’s once again penned an addictive floor-filler that pulls on the heartstrings. DR

Slowthai – Sooner

One of the standout tracks on Slowthai’s excellent, punk-inspired new album UGLY, Sooner was actually first teased via Instagram live back in November 2020 – just one day before Ty’s infamous appearance at the NME Awards that same year. The song is an electrifying, bittersweet ode to the small pleasures of being young (Ridin’ shotgun in the 306 /Eat your Weetabix /Feelin’ love drunk”) offset by the melancholy of, well, growing up. London songwriter Ethan P. Flynn – who’s previously collaborated with FKA twigs and Jockstrap – puts it best in the chorus: Oh, what a waste of time, what a waste of time /Low, at the best of times”. JW

The Dare – Good Time

Has the so-called indie sleaze” revival amounted to much more than 30-somethings liking old photos of Soulwax on Instagram? With his solo project The Dare, the sharply-dressed New Yorker Harrison Patrick Smith seems hell-bent on making it A Thing. Following his sweaty breakout anthem Girls, Good Time is another raucous banger that reeks of sticky dancefloors and cigarettes. DR

Idi Akz – Vintage 2 ft. Sal

Idi Akz throws it back on his latest drop, teaming up with his mate Sal for a track imbued with noughties hip-hop flavour. It’s something of a departure for Derby-based rapper, eschewing the brooding samples and UK drill beats of his previous releases for groovy, club-ready production. He won’t be putting bottles up in the VIP section yet, though – at just 16, this midlands rap prodigy needs to get his ID first. OP

Unknown T Right Hand ft. Knucks

Unknown T’s 2021 track Goodums paired a drill beat with mellow organs, inspiring the term chill drill”. The Homerton rapper returns to the smooth subgenre on Right Hand, and so chill-drill practitioner Knucks sounds right at home. DR

King Isis – taste of u

On taste of u, Dirty Hit’s new signing King Isis describes the all-consuming sensory overload of love, making references to drowning” and suffocating” under the weight of a romantic partnership that’s doomed to fail. I had a case of you /I’m drowning, and I do it just because /Now I’m stained with you /I never really knew how hard that was”, King Isis sings longingly over a bass-heavy beat with looped guitars. We hope they’ve recovered from this particular entanglement. JW
