Eagle-eyed FKA twigs fans might recognise Ethan P. Flynn’s name from the credits of Magdalene. The London musician played piano, clarinet and keyboards on the album – a gig he landed thanks to his ambitious, eccentric musicianship, which he demonstrated on his 2019 project B‑Sides & Rarities: Vol.1. Keep an eye out for this guy because he’s likely to be involved with some intriguing projects in 2020. For now, get a feel for Ethan P. Flynn’s musical inspirations from this eclectic Face Mix, which ranges from hip-hop via MF Doom and Arizona group Injury Reserve, to indie greats like Low and Neutral Milk Hotel and the wild genius of Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits.
What would be the ideal setting for listening to your Face mix?
Wrapped up warm with your entire family on Christmas Day.
When does music make you happiest?
When it sounds like it always existed.
Which upcoming /underground musicians should we be checking out?
My guy Lewis Evans records songs as Good With Parents and plays sax in this band Black Country, New Road. He actually made it into the mix.
What are your hopes and fears for the London music scene?
I hope for one giant, 1,000 member band. I also fear that.
Can you share a survival tip for the 2020s?
No new friends.
