Guess USA gets wet and wild for SS24

Fashion news of the week: Plus, Barry Keoghan becomes a Burberry brand ambassador, Diesel and Lee hook up, Selfridges opens a joke shop and Gentle Monster and Maison Margiela are back.

We’re back to usual programming after fashion month, ending things on a high at Paris Fashion Week with internet-stopping collections courtesy of Mrs Prada at Miu Miu (did you see Little Simz strutting down the runway?) and Nicolas Ghesquière’s 10-year anniversary show at Louis Vuitton. Four thousand guests – half of which were LV employees – packed into the Louvre to watch the designer look back on his greatest hits: lots of sci-fi, plenty of sharp tailoring, and a renewed vision of futuristic womenswear. We’ll toast to that. For now, though, we’re back on home soil, almost recharged, and very ready to deliver you the best in fashion news. Pad and paper at the ready, you lot.

Guess USA makes a splash for SS24

Sure, we’re a long way away from those sexy, sweat-soaked summer nights. But that’s not to say we can’t get in the mood, right? For Guess USA’s SS24 campaign under creative director Nicolai Marciano, the denim brand enlisted filmmaker and cinematographer Eli Russell Linnetz to get behind the lens for a hot-under-the-collar snapshot of a wet and wild night, inspired by the 1984 film Splash, whose protagonist becomes infatuated with a woman who is secretly a mermaid. Back on land, though, Guess USA’s latest collection which in turn takes its cues from Western films: earthy tones, dusty pink and rustic orange on raw-edge denim mini skirts, unhemmed vests, jean-shorts and the brand’s classic jeans in five bumper styles. Yee-haw.

Barry Keoghan joins the Burberry family

In February, Burberry brought back a conveyor belt of its best and most beloved faces for its AW24 show, with Agyness Deyn opening, swiftly followed by the likes of Lily Cole, Karen Elson, Edie Campbell and Lily Donaldson. Now, Burberry is firmly looking to the present, with the announcement of its latest family member, the actor and general internet favourite Barry Keoghan, who sat front row at the show. The star of Saltburn, Banshees of Inisherin and The Killing of a Sacred Deer is officially a Burberry brand ambassador, so get used to seeing him out and about sporting the brand’s most covetable gear. I’ve been a fan of Burberry for many years now,” Keoghan said. It’s such an iconic heritage brand with innovation at its heart, and a commitment to supporting arts and culture. I’m very excited to be a part of this next chapter.”

Diesel and Lee hook up on a sexy denim capsule

Diesel’s got a new fella in town, and he’s called Lee®. For its first capsule collaboration, titled DIESEL❤VES LEE®, Glenn Martens’ hyper-sexy Italian brand has called on the denim aficionados for a collection of two new fits and four styles (two straight legs, bootcut and flare), boasting plenty of both brands’ signatures: customised trims, either Diesel denim on the front or Lee denim on the back and vice versa, and needle-stitched side seams. Wonder what these two talk about when the lights go out…

The limited-edition capsule collection will be sold in Diesel and Lee stores globally

Selfridges are having a laugh

These days, we’re all in need of a laugh. And Selfridges, armed with a whoopie cushion, gets that, opening a first-of-its-kind joke shop inside its Oxford Street store. Here, you’ll find all the classic joke shop tricks, as well as specially curated products from a host of hilarious designers such as Puppets and Puppets, Adam Jones, Corrina Goutas, Judith Leiber and Cowboy of Habits, who are dishing up lipsticks, gags, mad bags, practical jokes and very impractical clothes. So, not your average joke shop. Now pull my finger.

Get in on the joke at Selfridges, Oxford Street via the Duke Street entrance from Friday 8th March

Gentle Monster and Maison Margiela are back

Not that our obsession ever faltered, but since that couture show by John Galliano a month ago, we’ve been buzzing about Maison Margiela. Now, the house is back with its latest collaboration with eyewear brand Gentle Monster, for a killer collection of futuristic temple-less designs, leather-wrapped frames, plus the much-loved four white stitches of Margiela in designs ranging from electric blue, steely silver, blood orange and midnight black. Suffice to say we’ll be hiding our hangovers behind these bad boys for a while.

The collection is available now at gentlemonster.com
