Last Friday, Uncut Gems landed on Netflix and sent everyone down an anxiety-inducing rabbit hole. Starring noughties rom-com funnyman Adam Sandler and breakout star Julia Fox (with a cameo from global megastar The Weeknd), it’s a shot of pure adrenaline that movie fans and old-school critics alike can’t get enough of; the film currently holds a super-impressive 92 per cent approval rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
Set in New York’s Diamond District, the Safdie brothers’ crime thriller sees diamond dealer Howard Ratner (Sandler) hurtle through a series of high-stake bets. In addition to his nail-biting escapades pawning boulder-sized bling to fund his fast-rolling sports gambling habit, the sleazy jeweller also navigates domestic misery in tense Passover celebrations and an unstable hot-and-cold relationship with his mistress (and employee) Julia.
It’s a lot.
With the film fast gaining cult status, production company A24 has just dropped limited edition merch that pays homage to the movie’s most memorable scenes.
First up, the ridiculous iced out Furby Pendant, which has become the film’s unlikely mascot. The real-life iteration of the diamond-encrusted necklace in the shape of the cult 1990s toy will be made from gold-plated stainless steel complete with Austrian crystals.
Also in the mix is a collectible basketball commemorating Howard’s winning parlay bet that netted him a $1,225,000 win, as well a useful diamond grading chart – should you choose to cut your uncut gems.
