Just before Christmas, a jury panel including Andy Serkis, Sadie Frost and THE FACE’s editor Matthew Whitehouse got together at BAFTA HQ in London to decide this year’s EE Rising Star Award nominees.
The prestigious acting accolade has previously scooped up by the likes of Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), John Boyega (Star Wars), Bukky Bakray (Rocks), Michael Ward (Top Boy) and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) to name a few.
Now, with the 2022 BAFTAs around the corner (for the cal: 13th March), this year’s nominees have just been announced. Best of all, this is the only category where the public can have their say via online voting, which also opens today.
The shortlist of 2022’s brightest film and TV talent includes Ariana DeBose for her role in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story; Lashana Lynch for her groundbreaking turn as 007 in No Time To Die; Millicent Simmonds for her performance in dystopian horror A Quiet Place II; Golden Globe winner Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of The Dog) and Harris Dickinson (The King’s Man).
“The nominees that have been shortlisted this year are all incredibly talented,” Bakray says. “I feel so blessed to be part of the process, celebrating the next generation of rising stars in the industry. The EE Rising Star Award is such a gratifying face of recognition and I know first-hand the true gift of [this].”
Best of luck, we say!
