The go-to brand for cool girls looking to score a cute bikini
Fashion news of the week: Plus, Jamie xx swaps DJ decks for towels, Kiko Kostadinov unleashes another fab pair of ASICS, JW Anderson wants us to get prickly, and Lola Leon hits the splits for David Koma.
Fruity Booty has had enough of the UK’s erratic weather and hit the road. Inspired by hedonism and heat in the south of France, the go-to brand for cool girls looking to score a cute bikini or some wispy underwear has launched new pieces encompassing all of the above. The “sun siren” bikini is red-hot, sitting alongside a leopard print number named after Shania Twain (you heard). And no summer line is complete without at least one prairie offering: this one includes a dress, skirt and a coquette pair of bloomers in varying heavenly hues. You can practically smell the sunscreen.

ASICS heads to the hairdressers with a fresh pair of shoes
Barbers barely catch a break; while we get to sit pretty in those big, comfy chairs, they have to stay on their feet for hours cutting our hair and listening to our chit-chat. It makes them the perfect candidates, then, to test a new pair of shoes designed for all-day comfort. It’s why ASICS, for a brand new campaign, took its cutting-edge GEL-QUANTUM 360™ VIII shoes for a spin in three hairdressers across East London and Paris, showing off the shoe’s genius Division Space Gel™ technology. It also ties together the Japanese footwear brand’s focus on movement and the mind; like a fresh trim, getting out and about in a new pair of shoes is good for the soul. We’ll take a number VIII on both feet, please.
FaceGym branch out into skincare
FaceGym, purveyors of sculpting sans needles – think deep facial massages and mini yoga balls to carve out those cheekbones – have now got skin in the, well, skincare game. The standout product? The Electro-Lite Cleanser, whose pH balanced, gel-to-foam texture cleans and hydrates while slowly getting rid of uneven texture. Win-win. The experts at FaceGym also tell us that using electrolytes in skincare is all the rage now, too – like Lucozade for your pores, it helps your skin keep in every drop of moisture and locks nutrients in.
Sharmadean Reid’s fresh way of doing things
The Beautystack and WAH Nails founder has just released her debut book, New Methods for Women, a bonafide manual for those who want to get the most out of their relationships, creativity and careers, broken down into 49 empowering methods. And who doesn’t want that? But this isn’t just another self-help book. We’re in good hands with Reid to guide us, as one of the beauty industry’s most prolific innovators, who knows entrepreneurship like the back of her hand. All that and she’s even found time to be a good mum. Her words: gospel.

Jamie xx swaps DJ decks for towels
Jamie xx has temporarily cast aside the decks in the name of fashion, teaming up with Tekla to release an exclusive line with the brand. With his next solo album In Waves landing on 20th September (his second after 2015 debut In Colour), old Jamie’s conjured up striped towels and bathrobes that emulate the soft waves of the album’s cover. The towels are perfect for lounging poolside; the hooded robes perfect as all-in-one solution for those two-day hangovers.

David Koma sets his sights on Lourdes Leon
Lourdes Leon is the star of David Koma’s first ever campaign. Marking 15 years of the brand, Mr Koma decided to tap THE FACE cover star after being blown away watching her The Standard, London. Contorting her body into the splits and staring down the camera, Lourdes oozes seduction. “Working with the incredible Lourdes as the first ever ‘face’ of the season was a truly fantastic experience,” says the London-based, Georgian designer. “She is the perfect representation of the Koma Girl – a complex character who is tough yet sensual, free yet controlled, and youthful yet mature.”
JW Anderson's latest collection is anything but prickly
Keeping the fashion crowd talking is something Jonathan Anderson does effortlessly. Case in point: his new “Best In Show” capsule collection. A continuation of sorts of the AW24 line – a nostalgic take on quintessential, old English style – the collection is something both you and your nan can appreciate. Take the “Prickly” hoodies and crew-neck jumpers, available in turquoise, ink-blue, grass-green and grey (there’s even a hedgehog clutch). Perhaps flowers are more your speed? Get your fill via sheer sunflower tops, rosette-laden cardigans or a plush bomber jacket.
Pick/prick your fave bits when the collection lands in JW Anderson stores and on the JW Anderson site on 8th July
Skateboarding whizz Tyshawn Jones snags another adidas collab
The skateboarding wunderkind’s latest adidas design is skating into this summer’s hotlist. After brewing for some time, a second iteration of the two-time Thrasher Skater of the Year’s namesake trainer arrived this week in sleek, monochrome styles. Tasked with creating a lightweight model for ultimate mobility, the Tyshawn II includes perforated toes, a multi-coloured gum sole, and a gold engraved adidas motif on the tongue.

Thom Browne catapults the Roaring Twenties into 2024
Challengers but make it fashion from Thom Browne. Emulating the flamboyance of the 1920s and 1930s, the designer’s new campaign sees models go toe-to-toe in pleated skirt dresses, polo T‑shirts and shorts. Now, as someone who was thoroughly there for the sudden tenniscore shift in our wardrobes, this is a subtle nod to a trend I can get on board with without looking like I’m literally about to head to the court. It veers on the right side of sporty, and for those who have been paying attention to Thom Browne and his recent fantastical couture collection with jaw-dropping levels of intricacy and detail, it slots in nicely into that world. Only without the hefty price tag.

Kiko Kostadinov and Asics fire up a new collab: Gel-Flammae
And finally. Laura and Deanna Fanning, the design duo currently helming the women’s division at Kiko Kostadinov, know what it means to make a good trainer. Their collaboration with Marc Jacobs’ subsidiary Heaven spawned a pair of saccharine multi-strapped trainers that sold out in minutes. Needless to say, when the Fanning twins joined forces with cult Japanese label Hysteric Glamour to create the cotton candy-hued midnight Gel Quantum in 2022, it fast became one of the most sought-after silhouettes of the year (it now goes for upwards of £1,000 on resale sites). Now we’ve got a glorious pair of the Gel-Flammae shape to hit the ground running with.
Available in a gunmetal and blue, the latest model is seen in a campaign shot by Rosie Marks, starring a netball team, an improv drama group and a gnome village from Melbourne, the twins’ birthplace. Obvs, it called for a road test on UK soil. The box, a mud-brown and green concoction, is almost as prized a possession as the trainers themselves. They slide on with ease and are comfortable enough to convert even the biggest of sneaker snobs.
