Reece Feldman: from Real Housewives to the Oscars red carpet

My Media Diet: The social media-savvy film buff has befriended the likes of Jenna Ortega and Dylan O’Brien.

Reece Feldman knows how to get celebs talking – or at least, TikToking.

Better known as @guywithamoviecamera (a reference to the 1929 silent Soviet film Man with a Movie Camera), the hardcore film buff has flown up the ranks of internet stardom over the last couple of years. From the Oscars to the Emmys, the 24-year-old has become renowned for getting celebrities to take part in all kinds of TikTok fodder on the red carpet and beyond, opening a window into a world that’s often hidden behind tightly closed doors.

Originally from Queens, New York, Feldman graduated with a degree in film from Tulane University at the height of the pandemic, with big plans to become the Next Big Director.

From there, he bagged himself a job as a production assistant on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, before landing on-set for dramedy The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel. At first, Feldman used TikTok as a way to show his friends the reality of his seemingly glamorous Hollywood job: stocking up fridges, taking cast members’ drinks orders, that kind of thing. Then he blew up.

Now, Feldman has 1.5 million followers and counting on the app, as the teams behind award shows and movies such as Scream VI snap him up to help publicise their wares. So far, he’s chased Jenna Ortega around an off-licence as she tries to capture the perfect BeReal; received compliments from Margot Robbie and Brat Pitt at the Babylon premiere (Feldman was wearing a powder blue velour suit and handmade bowtie off Etsy); taken part in a spine-tingling stare-off with Aubrey Plaza and been told to fuck off by Dylan O’Brien.

If you’ve not caught wind of Feldman on your FYP yet, you’ll probably end up watching one of his own films on the big screen soon enough. Until then, keep scrolling to find out what else he gets up to within the confines of his er, small screen.

The last article I found myself thinking about was…

Everyone is Beautiful and No One is Horny by RS Benedict. Every few months I come back to this article and it seemingly grows more relevant.

The last new artist I discovered on Spotify was…

Royel Otis. I’ve had their song Oysters In My Pocket on repeat for the past three weeks.

The last podcast I spent hours listening to was…

Blank Check with Griffin & David. It’s the best movie podcast out there. This is a non-negotiable subject for me.

The last picture I liked on Instagram was…

Haley Lu Richardson’s Valentine’s Day post. She is very cool.

The last TikTok I sent to a friend was…

It took me a few minutes to stop laughing at this one. I was simply not prepared for the noise this man makes.

The last series I binged (or watched a lot of) was…

I just binged Mare of Easttown, MTV’s Scream and I’m currently making my way through Harper’s Island.

The last book I stayed awake reading was…

December Park by Ronald Malfi. This book single handedly altered my current sleep pattern.

The last new word I learned was…

Bumfuzzle, which means to be bewildered. I had legitimately never heard it until a friend of mine used the word yesterday.

The last Reddit thread I got sucked into was…

While not a singular thread, I spend way too much time on r/TVTooHigh, where people post pictures of TVs that are installed way too high on walls. It is a problem that our society has yet to confront and I will stop at nothing to see its resolution.

The last meme that made me laugh aloud was…

I love to take baths. So I feel like, encountered by witches who seek to make a stew out of me, I too would respond by eating or drinking all of the ingredients thrown in the cauldron with me.
