Rihanna and Diesel match each other’s freak

Fashion news of the week: Plus, Olivia Coleman is a Burbs woman, Gucci enlists Kelsey Lu, Tom Ford will be celebrated at the British Fashion Awards, and Gimaguas is back on British soil.

You can never predict Rihanna’s next move. Will the self-proclaimed bad gal” start a hair care line? Oh, she’s already done that. Will she turn her hand to photography and capture A$AP Rocky through the lens of a woman evidently in love? Done that, too. Another moment we didn’t quite see coming? A collaboration with Diesel – marking the Italian brand’s first stab at underwear.

It makes sense when you think about it: Glenn Martens, the head honcho over at Diesel, is all about disrupting the fashion sphere and shaking things up. A mountain of condoms at a Diesel show and a runway made of shredded denim doesn’t exactly scream conformist. Plus, since he relinquished his post as creative director at Y/Project, he probably has a few more hours in the day to fashion up some garters. And needless to say, we already know Rihanna’s track record – both in music and during her career as a full-time beauty mogul – is full of untamable, pioneer moments, so what’s one more?

The surprise announcement has been tried and tested and we lap it up every time – it gets the people going. An hour before the collab went live, Rihanna dropped an image of herself, enveloped against a vermilion background, wearing an icy-blue shaggy hooded coat and a saucy red underwear set married with a figure-hugging skirt. The highly anticipated @diesel collab is finally here,” read the caption. Simple, yet effective.

Just what exactly does the collection entail, you ask? To sum it up: it’s all of the risqué elements of Diesel and the disruptiveness of Savage Fenty rolled into one. Don’t believe us? Check it out for yourself.

Olivia Coleman is right at home in Burberry’s outerwear campaign

Outerwear is Burberry’s wheelhouse. Acting is Olivia Coleman’s territory. So, what happens when the two merge? Well, a stellar AW24 campaign is what. In the It’s Always Burberry Weather” campaign, Coleman is pictured leaning against a car in the British countryside, all smiles (why wouldn’t you be in a swanky Burbs ad?) flaunting quite the delectable quilted overcoat. The Academy Award winner joins a line-up of top-notch global ambassadors leading the charge in the winter campaign, including former FACE cover star Little Simz, Barry Keoghan, footballers Cole Palmer and Eberechi Eze, and Burberry OG Cara Delevingne.

Besides Olivia’s beautiful mug joining the roster of delectable Burberry stars, you can also head down to your nearest Burberry shop and catch IRL pop-ups and window displays. If you’re into that sort of thing, of course.

Tom Ford is an Outstanding Achiever

Loading...

Tom Ford might have more time on his hands since his exit as creative director of his own, eponymous brand, but he’ll always be a pioneer in fashion – and he’ll be receiving his flowers at the Fashion Awards this December. With a career spanning 35 years, moments of which include, his ingenious and oft-referenced Gucci tenure (fashion editor Olivia Singer had a successful recent Milan trip that ended with her scoring a TF by Gucci gem) as well as helming creative direction at Saint Laurent from 1999 to 2004, the 63-year-old will be the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Achievement award. An accolade well overdue, we’d say.

While he may not have any ties to a luxury house at the moment (fingers crossed the tide changes soon), Ford is still very much invested in the eponymous brand he founded in 2005. He played a fundamental role in picking the successor of his namesake brand (Peter Hawkings) and has since spoken enthusiastically about Haider Ackermann recently acquiring the creative director posy, saying he would be the first on his feet” at Haider’s debut show next March. Well, rest assured that there won’t be a single person seated when he accepts his award at the BFAs.

Gimaguas touches down in London

Gimaguas, a Spanish brand at its core, initially tested the waters in London when it planted temporary roots in the heart of Soho last November. It was a hit. Garments flew off the racks almost as soon as they landed, and a white, lace skirt set even made it onto an episode of The Kardashians (testament to the versatility of the brand’s garments). Now, they’re back, and they’ve got Lila Moss, offspring of runway royalty Kate Moss, fronting the AW24 campaign.

It was fate, twin sisters and founders of Gimaguas, Claudia and Suyana Durany, told THE FACE. Lila wore the brand a lot, and she became a part of the Gimaguas community. It felt natural.” Shooting took place in July in fashion favourite Formentera, and Lila, not unfamiliar with the location having visited before (course she has), was in her element while they worked from sunset to sunrise.

Things look a little different inside the central London pop-up this time: they’ve installed a circular rail that sits in the middle so customers can peruse the collection at their leisure and avoid bumping into one another. Footwear and sumptuous bags are encased in glass boxes (you can, of course, try on as many of the studded ballet pumps and bags as you like). And the fitting room is a floor below, with several changing rooms and mini catalogues of the collection lying around to flick through. You might even bump into Rina Lipa carrying a mountain of goods (true story) and various boyfriends, no longer seated in some corner bored but, instead, harbouring goods from the brand’s new men’s line.

The sisters are confident that their favourite pieces – second-skin boots that mimic leather trousers and a grey canvas bag – won’t be on the shelves for long. Head over and experience a little bit of the Spanish heat while you can.

The Gimaguas pop-up is open now until 20th October at 59 Greek Street, London.

Coach takes to the skies with its new line of sustainable bags

What would you do if a Coach bag suddenly fell out of the sky and landed on you? Well, seeing as they’re hot commodities at the moment, you probably wouldn’t be too mad about it. Titled the Alter/Ego” collection, the new Coachtopia ad sees a range of bags reimaged from deastock materials and crafted into five different models, including a Tabby, satchel and checkerboard shoulder bag.

There’s a wider message at play, too. Lola Tung, star of The Summer I Turned Pretty, leads a short film that sees her play two versions of herself – an eco-conscious warrior and a die-hard Coach enthusiast – who end up becoming whole courtesy of her repurposed bags.

My generation is starting to really consider the impacts of their fashion choices,” says Lola. I’m thrilled to help Coachtopia tell this story about production waste – and how we can transform how we think about it.”

We don’t need to remind you that the Brooklyn bag is catnip right now and the SS25 show revealed another collection complete with bags TikTok girlies will be going nuts over. Head to your nearest checkout or regret it.

Gucci, Kelsey Lu and Debbie Harry send a love letter to London

The epic Debbie Harry (!) and musical polymath Kelsey Lu front a new Gucci campaign, which sets about highlighting the seductive nature of London: black cabs as the sun rises after a night out, illuminating street lamps, landmark locations. It’s essentially a love affair wrapped up in a campaign.

In the latest instalment of We Will Always Have London”, Kelsey Lu clutches an oxblood Blondie Bag (there’s the Debbie Harry connection), a modern iteration of a silhouette first released in 1970. Eagle-eyed fans of creative director Sabato De Sarno will also enjoy the glimpses of his SS25 resort collection in the accompanying short, too.

Alessandro Michele ushers us into his new Valentino home

Following a much-discussed SS25 collection riffing on Valentino Garavani’s 1960s, 70s and 80s archive (think lots of frills and jewels), as well as a star-studded FROW to check it out (think the old gang: Styles, John, Welch, Leto) Michele didn’t do what many might in his position: take a well-deserved break. Instead, he’s been busy crafting the spring 2025 campaign Avant Les Débuts” to further execute his Valentino vision.

A recreation of what Michele imagines Maison Valentino to be like decades before he entered the picture, the campaign sees opulent muses clad in pastels, pearls and polished suits. Elsewhere in the campaign, a model stares pointedly at the camera, dressed in a polka-dot dress with a pug perched loyally at her side (pugs are a symbol of the house, would you believe).

If you weren’t one of the lucky few to see the SS25 hit the runway IRL, this campaign will tide you over until the collection hits shops.

Holzweiler x Bjarne Melgaard x CaviarKaspia is pretty in pink

If you head over to Selfridges, you’ll be greeted by a millennial pink (yes, it’s back apparently) three-way partnership courtesy of Holzweiler, Caviar Kaspia, and artist Bjarne Melgaard. While it’s not the most obvious of collaborations, it works. Simply put: it’s a line almost entirely enveloped in a saccharine pink shade, boasting delicate scarves, puffer coats that offer plush Michelin man rolls, and T‑shirts, all with Bjarne’s illustrations emblazoned across the front.

Holzweiler x Bjarne Melgaard x Caviar Kaspia is available to shop at Selfridges now.

Nike’s staple tech suit receives a winter update

We all know the best thing about temperatures dipping is the ability to pretty much live in tracksuits without getting funny looks on the tube. Now, thanks to Nike tinkering you can break into a sprint without breaking a sweat. Dri-fit technology absorbs sweat and makes moving with ease a breeze. Meanwhile, a two-way zipper and toggle detail along the hood will keep you dry during unpredictable British downpours. Right now, cerulean, navy-blue and green shades are available but keep your eyes peeled for an ultra-reflective version landing sooner than you think.

Stock up on tech suits at nike.com.
